The Unfinished Kingdom began with a mood before it became a system.
We wanted the glow of an old arcade cabinet in a dark room, the sense that the machine had been waiting longer than anyone realized, and the constant forward pull of an idle RPG. The player would not simply select a hero from a menu. They would discover Cabinet 14 and become part of the game inside it.
That idea gave us our foundation: a mobile-first browser idle RPG with continuous progression, short active sessions, crisp pixel art, and an interface that feels like physical arcade hardware.
Idle does not mean absent
The phrase “idle game” can mean a lot of things. For us, it does not mean watching a number increase while every decision disappears. The Warden fights automatically, but the player still shapes how that fight unfolds. Equipment, upgrades, skill timing, boss preparation, and long-term collection all need to matter.
Promises made early
There will be no forced advertising, no paid random equipment pulls, and no complete prestige reset that erases the character you have built. We want progress to feel persistent. When a player returns after a break, the Warden should still feel like their Warden.
The project is deliberately being designed for a very small team. Every feature has to earn its cost in code, artwork, testing, and future maintenance. That constraint is useful. It forces us to ask whether a system creates a visible improvement for the player or merely makes the design document longer.
The first public milestone
Our first milestone is a focused public Alpha. It will not pretend to be finished. The goal is to prove that automatic combat, active decisions, mobile performance, progression, and the haunted arcade presentation can support one another.
There is a long road between an idea and a kingdom that can keep growing. This dev log will document that road without revealing the mysteries Cabinet 14 would prefer to tell itself.
